Ribuan penduduk dipindah

KAOHSIUNG: Taiwan memindahkan ribuan penduduknya, menutup sekolah dan menghentikan perkhidmatan kereta api sedang Taufan Nanmadol melanda negara itu semalam.

Taufan tesebut yang sebelum itu telah menyebabkan sekurang-kurangnya 13 orang terkorban di Filipina, melanda berdekatan bandar Taitung di timur Taiwan awal semalam.Kawasan itu merupakan antara daerah yang paling padat penduduk di Taiwan.Pegawai Biro Kaji Cuaca Taiwan ditukil sebagai berkata:'Ini adalah taufan terburuk yang melanda Taiwan sejak (Taufan) Morakot.


'Taufan Morakot telah menyebabkan lebih 700 orang terkorban atau hilang apabila ia melanda negara itu pada 2009.Taufan Nanmadol mempunyai kederasan angin sehingga 137 kilometer sejam.Pihak berkuasa telah memindahkan lebih 8,000 penduduk ke tempat lebih selamat.Kementerian Pertahanan pula telah mengerahkan ribuan askar membantu dalam pemindahan itu.


Rakaman televisyen menunjukkan askar memasuki kampung di daerah Pingtung di selatan Taiwan, memindahkan para penduduk yang dijangka terjejas oleh banjir apabila taufan itu melanda.Para penduduk dipindahkan menggunakan lori tentera.Kementerian Pertahanan juga telah menghantar dua pesawat pengangkutan C-130 bagi menyelamatkan 140 pelancong yang terkandas di Pulau Matsu.


Sementara itu, Pentadbiran Pengangkutan Taiwan telah menggantung dua perkhidmatan kereta api dari Taitung ekoran taufan itu.Lebih 300 kawasan juga diberi amaran akan berlaku tanah runtuh akibat taufan itu.Sementara itu, Taufan Irene telah menyebabkan sekurang-kurangnya 21 orang terkorban apabila ia melanda wilayah pantai timur Amerika Syarikat.


Semalam, datuk bandar New York, Encik Michael Bloomberg, telah mengizinkan 370,000 penduduk yang tinggal di kawasan rendah kembali ke rumah masing-masing.Perkhidmatan kereta api New York dijadualkan kembali beroperasi sementara bursa saham turut dibuka semula.Kesan taufan itu bagaimanapun tidak seburuk yang dijangkakan.Taufan Irene menyebabkan banjir dari North Carolina hingga ke Delaware ekoran ombak setinggi dua meter yang membadai ke pantai.Taufan yang kini reda dan dikategorikan sebagai ribut dilaporkan sedang menuju ke Canada. -- AFP, AP, Reuters.

DHAKA: Setiap kali menjelang Aidilfitri, berduyun-duyun umat Islam akan pulang ke kampung halaman mereka.

Gempa bumi kuat di Laut Banda, Indonesia

Satu gempa bumi bermagnitud 6.8 skala Richter berlaku di Laut Banda, Indonesia, pada pukul 2.57 petang tadi, menurut Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia.

Bagaimanapun, kejadian itu tidak mencetuskan ancaman tsunami.

Dalam kenyataan itu, Jabatan Meteorologi berkata gempa bumi kuat itu berlaku di 1,532 kilometer tenggara Tawau, Sabah.

Gempa bumi 6.8 magnitud gegar Timor Laste

JAKARTA: Gempa bumi kuat berukuran 6.8 magnitud melanda dasar laut berdekatan Timur Laste tetapi tiada amaran tsunami dikeluarkan.

Gempa bumi itu berlaku pada kira-kira jam 1.57 tengah hari waktu tempatan pada kedalaman 469 kilometer dan kira-kira 271 kilometer tenggara ibu negeri, Dili.
"Kita tidak mengeluarkan amaran tsunami. Tiada laporan kerosakan setakat ini," kata Pegawai Pusat Gempa Kebangsaan, Novita. - AFP, bharian

Paling menyedihkan, mangsa hanya mampu mengalirkan air mata mengenangkan nasib keluarga yang sehelai sepinggang ketika umat Islam di negara ini ceria menyambut hari raya.
Dalam kejadian jam 11.50 pagi itu, semua mangsa tidak dapat menyelamatkan dokumen penting dan harta benda memandangkan api marak membakar rumah kayu mereka.

Tukang gunting rambut, Rozali Abu Bakar, 58, berkata ketika kejadian dia dan beberapa ahli keluarga berada di rumah, manakala anak dan cucu keluar ke bandar untuk membeli barang sebagai persiapan hari raya.

“Ketika kejadian, saya di bilik air, tiba-tiba terasa bahang sebelum bergegas keluar. Saya terkejut apabila melihat api di celah dinding sebelum menyuruh anak dan ahli keluarga menyelamatkan diri.

“Semua pakaian raya anak dan cucu yang baru pulang ke kampung untuk menyambut Aidilfitri hangus dan kami tinggal sehelai sepinggang,” katanya ketika ditemui di tempat kejadian, semalam.

Seorang lagi mangsa, Wan Halimah Wan Hasan, 44, berkata ketika kejadian, dia berada di halaman bersama kanak-kanak yang diasuh, sebelum dikejutkan dengan jeritan jiran memberitahu rumahnya terbakar.
“Semua pakaian hari raya termasuk milik anak tunggal saya hangus,” katanya sambil mengesat air matanya.

Wan Halimah berkata, ketika kejadian suaminya, Mohamad Nor Yusof, 60, tiada di rumah kerana keluar bekerja sebagai pembantu kedai di Padang Tembak, Pengkalan Chepa, dekat sini.

Sementara itu, Ketua Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Kota Bharu, Wan Hassan Wan Idris, berkata pihaknya menerima panggilan kecemasan jam 11.52 pagi dan punca kebakaran dua rumah terbabit masih dalam siasatan.utusan

MONTREAL: Seramai 12 orang maut dan tiga lagi mengalami kecederaan apabila pesawat sewa khas terhempas di kawasan Artik Kanada, malam tadi.

Pesawat Boeing 737 yang dikendalikan First air membawa 15 penumpang termasuk empat krew, terhmepas beberapa kilometer dari Resolute Bay di wilayah Artik, Nunavut kira-kira jam 1 tengah hari.
